Need a proven tool to beat stress? Try some exercise this Monday. Studies show even a quick burst of exercise can reduce stress. Take a moment to lower stress and increase calm.
“Scientists have found regular participation in aerobic exercise has been shown to decrease overall levels of tension, elevate and stabilize mood, improve sleep, and improve self-esteem. Even five minutes of aerobic exercise can stimulate anti-anxiety effects,” according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Proven to decrease stress, exercise tops the doctor’s list of recommendations to alleviate the symptoms of stress.
Exercise works. But why? A stronger cardiovascular system means lower heart rates at rest, which builds up tolerance for emotional and stressful situations. Exercise releases endorphins, which are hormones in the brain that alleviate stress.
Moving is also preventative. Our ancient ancestors were always on the move. With this genetic gift of motion, a sedentary lifestyle doesn’t suit us. When we get moving, it prevents further stress and staves off the conditions of stress.
