Art of the Now

Too often life seems to be rushing by like an out of control roller coaster. The frenetic pace and unexpected turns can lead to tension, stress and anxiety. Today’s mindfulness exercise helps alleviate these negative feelings. It teaches you how to slow down your world so you can see it in a more manageable perspective. The result is you’ll feel calmer, more centered and more in control. Best of all, you can practice this exercise anywhere. All it takes is a few spare moments.

  1. Choose a given moment to consciously focus on what’s going on around you.
  2. Slow your breath as you tune into to your surroundings, the sights, sounds, smells and touch.
  3. Be acutely aware of everything you’re sensing, inside and out. Immerse yourself in the details.
  4. Gently return to a normal state of mind, now feeling calmer and more centered.

With repeated practice, you’ll find you’re able to focus for longer periods of time. Use this exercise as a mini-getaway from daily stress and tension.
