DeStress Monday at School

Mindful Moments / Rainbow Walk

Still your mind with a brief mindfulness practice and a guided audio meditation.

Teach your students how they can practice mindfulness throughout their day with a rainbow walk exercise.

For Teachers

Welcome to the moment. That’s our focus for this Monday – to notice the moment, because life can feel richer when we do.

The practice of mindfulness helps train us to be present in the moment, which gives us a break from the worries and stresses of our day-to-day lives and helps us savor the simple pleasures around us.

This Monday, try refreshing your mind with these simple steps:

  1. Start by noticing the sensations of your breath – the rib cage rising and falling and the cool air through your nostrils.
  2. Then turn your attention to the sounds around you, whether it’s the symphony of birds or city-sounds. You can also notice physical sensation, like the feeling of sitting or standing.
  3. Finally, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. Notice what arises, then let it go without judging or becoming attached.

During the week, try these practices to bring you back to the feeling of calm that comes from being present in moment.

For the Classroom

Welcome to the moment. Right now.

Being aware of what’s going on around us right now can help strengthen our focus and calm our minds. Take a moment to look around you, just noticing the details of your surroundings. There’s lots to see and notice. For fun, you can take note to yourself everything in your environment of a certain color or shape.

For another activity, in which you look for the whole rainbow of colors in your surroundings, try this practice from Mindful Teachers.
